It was announced at the beginning of this month that Facebook is planning to change its name. Yesterday, it became official: The company behind the infinite social network is now known as Meta. In the announcement, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said that the new name indicates the growing influence of the “metaverse. ” Which he explains as “a feeling of presence — like you are right there with another person or in another region.”

“In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do virtually anything you can assume. Make yourself close to your colleagues and relatives, do business, learn, play, shop, create. As well as new acquaintances that don’t fit how we think concerning computers or phones today,” Zuckerberg wrote.

“Concerning this prospect, you will be able to teleport spontaneously as a hologram to be at the office without a commute. At a concert with friends, or in your parent’s living room to catch up. Because this will unlock more opportunities no matter where you live. You’ll be able to spend more time on what matters to you, cut downtime in traffic, and lessen your carbon footstep.”

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which billions of people are using worldwide, will grasp their names under the rebranding authorities have called an attempt to deflect from the platform’s dysfunction. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said during an annual developer’s conference. “We’ve been trying a lot from striving with common concerns. And now it is time to catch everything that we’ve acquired and help generate the next chapter.”

“I am happy to declare that starting today, our corporation is now Meta. Our purpose continues the same, still about bringing oneself together. Our apps and their brands, they’re not changing,” he added.
