Removing emails from your Gmail is final — they’re lost forever once you empty your trash folder. You can archive the messages if you want to hide emails rather than delete them. This lets you find and retrieve the emails at a later date. Here’s how finding archived emails works;
Archive Emails in Gmail
To archive an email in Gmail, you need to choose an email (or multiple emails) and click the Archive button.
When you choose emails on the Gmail website, the “Archive” button appears at the top menu.
In the Gmail app for iPhone, iPad, or Android, click the Archive icon in the top menu. The Archive icon has the same design shown on the Gmail website.
Any email you archive will evaporate from your primary Gmail inbox, including any of the focused categories you might have.
However, you’ll still be able to view them under any separate folder you create using Gmail labels.
Find Archived Emails in Gmail Using the All Mail Label
As mentioned, archived emails disappear from the standard Gmail view. One option to locate archived emails in Gmail is to switch to the “All Mail” folder view.
This will show all your emails in one long list, including priority emails and any emails that have been categorized automatically. You can see this list by clicking the “All Mail” option in the left Gmail menu on the Gmail website.
There’s an apparent downside to this, especially if you have many emails—the sheer number of emails you’ll have to go through. This option is acceptable if you’ve only recently archived an email, but you might need to use the Gmail search bar to precisely locate archived emails instead.
