What are WhatsApp Rooms and How to Use them

WhatsApp Messenger, owned by Facebook, is a free messaging application with more than 2 billion users around the globe. The reason for such a large population of users is because WhatsApp is ad-free and free of cost application. The application can be easily downloaded from Google Play Store or App Store for Android and iPhone devices respectively.

WhatsApp has almost taken over the conventional messaging service provided by the network provider. It has evolved in the past five years and has come up with a lot of useful features i.e. share media (audio, video, pictures, documents, voice messages), WhatsApp Web, group chat, video calls, and WhatsApp Messenger Rooms.

Messenger Rooms is a recent feature that has been introduced to facilitate Facebook and Instagram users to connect with a wide variety of audiences. Just like other video conferencing applications, Messenger Rooms allow video chat with 50 people at a time by sending a direct link to them. People who do not own a Facebook account can also join the Messenger Room by clicking the invite link. This feature has made the Messenger Rooms convenient to be used by a multitude of users. For now, this recent feature is only available on WhatsApp Web, however, no final words have been given by the owners on the final release of this feature on mobile WhatsApp.

This article will describe ‘How to create a Messenger Room on WhatsApp through WhatsApp Web’.

For using Messenger Rooms feature on WhatsApp, you must update your WhatsApp to the latest version i.e. 2.2031.4.  If you have the latest WhatsApp Web version, you are good to go. Open your WhatsApp in a browser by going to ‘web.whatsapp.com’ and further scanning the QR code. You can check your WhatsApp Web version by clicking on the vertical dots in the top right corner, then click on ‘Settings’ and then navigating to the ‘Help’ option.

While your WhatsApp is opened on the web, go to the three vertical dots in the top right corner.

Click on the ‘Create a room’ option.

This will open a pop up that will ask to continue in Messenger to create a room. Click on ‘Continue in Messenger’ option.

This will open a screen that will ask to sign in with Facebook or Messenger. If you are already logged in your web then at the bottom a button with your Facebook user name will be visible. Click on ‘Continue as your username’ button. You can also choose to switch your Facebook or Messenger account by clicking the ‘Switch accounts’ option.

This will show a screen as below. Click on the ‘Try It’ button.

This will show a screen with your Facebook/Messenger username. Click on the ‘Create Room as your username’ button.

You can copy the room link and send it to your family, friends, or any other trusted individual as a Messenger Room Invite. The link can be sent through email, text, or message. Click on the ‘Copy’ button to copy the link of Messenger Room.

When you choose to leave the Room, disconnect the call by clicking the disconnect button as shown below.

A pop up will be shown for confirmation. Click on the ‘Leave’ button.
