Apple to Start Using in-house Screens from 2024

Apple plans to use its in-house screens for smartphones to get more in-house components.

The company intends to use its in-house screens on its mobile devices from 2024 onwards. Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that Apple is trying to bring more components in-house, quoting people with knowledge of the subject.

The company plans to start by swapping out the display in the highest-end Apple Watches by the end of next year. According to the announcement, the company intends to eventually get these displays to other devices, including the iPhone.

The Cupertino, California-based tech giant seeks to decrease its reliance on other members such as Samsung Electronics and LG Corp.

Apple did not instantly respond to a Reuters’ request for comment. While Samsung Display, a unit of Samsung Electronics, and LG Display refused to comment.

The announcement added that the screens would upgrade the existing OLED standard to microLED.

Bloomberg News reported on Monday that Apple intends to replace Broadcom Inc chips from its devices with an in-house creation in 2025.

The iPhone maker has been operating to limit its dependence on other chipmakers. Having transferred to its line of chips for recent models of its Mac computers, replacing those from Intel Corp.
