The Microsoft Office App Is Getting a New Name and Logo

Microsoft Office typically refers to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other apps in the Office suite. Still, a unified “Office” app is also used for organization and managing other apps. Microsoft announced that the Office app and website would have a new name and logo.

Microsoft announced that Office.com, the Office mobile app on Android and iPhone/iPad, and the Office app for Windows would have a new name: Microsoft 365. A new icon, shown above, will also be a hexagon with blue and purple colors. Microsoft says you won’t have to do anything to keep access to your apps and features, and the standalone apps on the desktop (like Word and Excel) aren’t concerned.

The Office app on Windows and Office.com has primarily served as a straightforward portal for your current documents. At the same time, the mobile version is the direct way to utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint — these are still available separately, but the Office app packs them all into one single download. Microsoft states more features are coming to the desktop and web apps, including a dashboard for subscription details and storage usage, more templates, and good sorting. Word, Excel, and other apps will still be different on the desktop.

The name and logo came after Microsoft changed “Office 365” to “Microsoft 365” back in 2020. The subscription service now has apps and services that don’t have anything to do with the long-running Office suite. Such as Microsoft Editor. The app now accommodates the name of the subscription service. Which should mean minor confusion — after the lengthy rebranding process is over.
