Upwork to Remove Skill Tests effective July 9th

As per the recent communication by Lean E Community Manager at Upwork and also Upwork circulated an email to all the subscribers indicating that Upwork is going to remove all Skill tests. Based on research conducted by Upwork these clients don’t count these test while making a hiring decision.

In the communication, Lean E quoted that “Our research found that clients don’t find skill tests important when making a hiring decision. They found profile introductions, portfolios, and job feedback to better showcase a freelancer’s skills and experience”.

However, Upwork will continue to “Upwork Readiness Test” for all new freelance to be eligible for Rising Talent. Upwork also introduces Specialized profile feature for the freelancer which is category based to demonstrate their talent. So in future Freelancer at Upwork will showcase their skills using Specialized Profiles.

Earlier this Month Upwork disabled free connects which freelancers were using to apply for the job, and now it requires 4-6 paid connects to apply for the job.

As per Upwork resources, they are making changes in the platform to improve the client experience and this way they can filter out Spam applications and fake accounts on Upwork.
