Meta Set to Decide on Trump’s Return to Facebook

Meta prepares to reveal whether Donald Trump would be permitted back on its platforms, Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook owner Meta Inc is readying to announce whether it will let former US President Donald Trump back on to Facebook and Instagram, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

The social media giant had previously stated it would determine by Jan 7 whether to let the former president return. However, that conclusion is expected to be revealed later in the month. The newspaper quotes a person familiar with the matter.

The report stated that meta has set up a working group to concentrate on the matter, according to people with an understanding of its operations. Adding that the group contains staffers from the public policy and communications teams and the content policy team.

Meta waited to respond to a request by Reuters for comment.

The development arrives after Elon Musk, Twitter’s new owner, revoked a permanent Trump ban on the social media platform in November last year after polling users.

Because Trump claimed that he had no interest in returning to Twitter.

“I don’t see any justification for it,” the former president had told via video. About whether he intended to return to Twitter by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition annual leadership conference.

Trump has scaled persistent attacks on the integrity of US voting since his 2020 election loss. And launched a bid in November to recover the presidency in 2024, aiming to pre-empt potential Republican rivals.
