Do You Know About Wi-Fi 6?

Wi-Fi 6 is expected to release later this year which will make the internet faster, reliable, secure, and energy efficient. it’s a new standard 802.11ax named as WiFi 6 for end-user convenience.Wi-Fi 6 will replace Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) released back in 2013.

WHAT IS WI-FI 6?

Wi-Fi 6 is the new technology coming for wireless Local area network (WLAN). The Wi-Fi 6 is a new naming convention used for and uses to easily remember and understand the standard 802 .11ax. This naming convention is set keeping the cellular data standards like 3G/4G/5G.

In Wi-Fi 6, it is reported that it will be 30% much faster, more reliable, having low latency, can deliver more data, and improved power efficiency. Wi-Fi 6 is making this happen by improvements in existing technologies and introducing new technologies.

Wi-Fi 6 will now use orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) as it the improved version of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Wi-Fi 6 is extending its capabilities to allow multi-user multi-input/multi-output which was missing for upstream connections in Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5.

Wi-Fi 6 Technology Science

Wi-Fi 6 Will also offer the following features:

It will increase the beamforming streams to 8 which will increase the network range and throughput.
It will now use 2.4GHz and 5GHz band simultaneously to improve the performance.
Implementation of TWT (target wake time) to radios power consumption and improve battery life for Wi-Fi devices.
A new technology called spatial reuse technology that will allow multiple devices to access the Wi-Fi network more easy to transfer data.

IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WI-FI 6 AND 5G NETWORK?

The answer is yes, Wi-Fi 6 is a wireless local access network (WLAN). it can be used in offices, home, conference halls, and other crowded areas. whereas 5G is a wide area network (WAN) And it is designed for cellular data for different applications like IoT connectivity.

Wi-Fi 6 is Backward compatible whereas a 5G network is not backward compatible and you have to replace the whole 3G and 4G hardware to offer 5G services.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF WI-FI 6 FOR BUSINESSES?

Wi-Fi 6 will surely improve the employee’s productivity as its offering 30% more speed that will result in work done in less time.

It will allow more simultaneous users so it will help connect more users with single AP.

Reduction in latency will improve the overall network speed as the users won’t kill the speed.

Wi-Fi 6 APs will cover more area though signal strength that will result in better performance in more crowded areas like cafes and conference halls.

Better performance and more range will result in better user experience in outdoor areas and there will be less dead spots.

WI-FI 6  END USER UNDERSTANDING

Wi-Fi 6 will show on the new logo on the Wi-Fi 6 compatible devices for end-user understanding.

WHEN WILL WI-FI 6 BE AVAILABLE?

It will soon be available in Q3,2019 but Wi-Fi 6 supported router will be available soon. D-Link and Asus presented their Wi-Fi 6 supported routers back in CES 2018. Buying a Wi-Fi 6 router will not help you to grab the advantages of Wi-Fi 6 unless you have Wi-Fi 6 supported end users devices.

For Wi-Fi 6 supported phones, we have to wait even longer as manufacturers will need to acquire 802.11ax-ready chipset like Qualcomm WCN3998 which Qualcomm planned to start showing demos to the manufactures in late 2018. We can expect Wi-Fi 6 supported phones will hit the market in Q3,2019.
