Google Chrome To Drop Support For Windows 7 & Windows 8.1

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will no longer support Google Chrome by the following year. This detail is not a rumor, as it arrives from Google’s official support page.

As we all know, Microsoft has officially observed these two operating systems as older versions of Windows and suggested that users upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 or 11. Let’s continue the discussion below.

Windows 7 & Windows 8.1 Will Get The Last Version of Google Chrome Next Year

James, the Chrome Support Manager, noted that we expect the arrival of Chrome 110 by February 7th, 2023, and with it, Google is officially terminating its support for Windows 7 and 8.1.

This means it is the last version of Google Chrome for these operating systems. After that, these users’ Chrome will not receive any updates or additional features from the company, even the security update.

However, Microsoft already ceased support for Windows 7 in 2020, as projected in 2009. Besides, Microsoft has also officially declared that the support will be declined for Windows 8.1 in January next year.

It seems appropriate as it is difficult for Google to count new features and modifications for that system running Chrome on the older operating system, whose originators even drop support.

There will be no problem for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users right now. They will keep fetching updates, but Windows 10 users are still advised to upgrade to Windows 11. Because it may lower Windows 10’s support in the next three years.

But currently, it seems a significant issue for Windows 7 users because many other prominent software companies are planning to decline support for it.

If you dive into some stats, around 200 million users are still operating Windows 7. StatCounter reported that 10.68% of Windows market share is charged by Windows 7.

Some other statements mention that there are about 2.7 billion

Windows users, which means around 70 million using Windows 8.1 as a stat, gives a percentage of 2.7%.
