TikTok is Under Investigation for how it handles Children’s Data by U.K.

TikTok the famous Chinese origin app is under investigation by the U.K. for its handling of data and personal information of Children’s and Underage Users.

As published in Guardian the investigation was started back in Feb, When the U.S Federal Trade Commission fined the Tiktok worth $5.7 million fine for violation of Underage Privacy Law.

Elizabeth Denham (Information Commissioner) confirms the Guardian that a Parliamentary Committee is Investigating TiKTok in multiple expects as follow:

How TikTak collects data and its open messaging system, which can allow adults to contact underage users, also the content in form of videos which can be accessed and shared by Children. The investgation is active”, She Said.

The investigation will also lead to a violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by TikTok, Which restrict companies to have protections to provide alternate services to underage users than Adult.

A ruling against TikTok when it was known as Musical.ly, was announced after FTC’s investigation. On the grounds that this app is breaking the Law of Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, as it’s not seeking any parental approval before collecting personal information of the user’s under the age of 13. In the result, Tiktok Updates the apps to prevents users under 13 to film or post videos.

ByteDance, the Chinese startup now worth $75Billions also reported to Guardian that

“We are cooperating with all organisations to provide information about product to help in there work, and we are ensuring data protection principles are adopted and its our 1st priority for TikToK”.
