Windows don’t show your PC’s serial number anywhere in its interface, nor do vital system information tools. But you can often look for a PC’s serial number with an easy command; a glance in your BIOS or the hardware itself.
Run the WMIC Command
To get started, all you need to do is to launch a Command Prompt or PowerShell window. On Windows 11, click the Windows Search, type cmd, and open the results.
Once the Command Prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt and then press Enter:
wmic bios get serialnumber
Once you press Enter, you will find your PC’s serial number beneath the text “SerialNumber.”
This command utilizes the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) tool to drag the PC’s serial number from its BIOS.
If you don’t find your computer’s serial number, this is due to your PC’s manufacturer’s fault. Your PC’s Serial Number will only appear here if your Computer manufacturer saves it to your PC’s BIOS or UEFI firmware. Computer manufacturers don’t always fill in the number appropriately. You’ll find something like “0,” “To be filled by OEM,” or blank space instead of an actual serial number.
